Years ago I had the opportunity to interview Mr. Quintin Feveck for an article written for Sweet TnT Magazine. At the time he had been studying Civil Engineering full time at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago; then, he’d been consumed primarily by books, hopes and dreams. And the remainder of his time was spent on making income at the side by cutting hair at a barber shop he set up at home. Due to his skill and commitment, he quickly became known by locals as Barber-Q.

Now things are different. Quintin has graduated and has obtained his degree in Civil Engineering. But this only scratches the surface of his great success in such a short space of time.

How Barber-Q became an Engineer

Many people often talk a big game. They speak of all the things they desire to accomplish and nothing really happens as the time goes by. With Quintin, it’s different. He once said, “I chose Civil Engineering because I wanted to take that desire of mine to build things and step it up to building bigger things like houses. In time I would like to be part of a team that designs and builds a high-rise building in Trinidad or Tobago or some other part of the world.” It’s good to know he still keeps these words close to heart.

When Quintin completed his degree, rather than waste excess time trying to get a regular 8-4 job within a competitive job market, he took a more productive approach. He tried both to get full time jobs for acquiring more of a particular type of experience BUT he also tried acquiring clients of his own.

Quintin values his clients

It’s a pleasure to state that Quintin has found success with the latter and has been actively building his client list; he is quickly seeing the success of his years of sacrifice and hard work.

And even more amazing is that the same customers who supported him when he first announced he was going to become an engineer still visit him to get their monthly haircuts. Now Quintin has multiple sources of income and is on the fast track to life to becoming one of the world’s best engineers. And the proof is in the rendering!

Bringing dreams to life

Quintin is able to take your conceptual ideas and transfer them onto paper. He also represents them in 3d and applies REAL-LIFE COLORS that you can physically buy at paint stores. You can even bring your own paint chips that you already know the color of and he can put them onto models of houses or buildings; this way you can see what your project looks like in advance before you “turn the soil”.

Commitment and compassion also matters greatly to Quintin because he takes the time to sit down with each client and discuss ideas and expectations; this would include the size of the building, number of rooms, amenities and where they would be located. He also provides clients with flexibility throughout the entire process in the event that they wish to make changes. From there, Quintin goes through everything pertaining to cad drawings, and then moves onto 3d modeling and rendering. Thereafter he moves onto the final stage where permission can be granted for development.

Faith and hard work pays off

Quintin now stands as a beacon of hope to many people. As a man of faith, he also serves as a reminder that through God and hard work anything is possible. Needless to say, Quintin’s clients are generally pleased with his work; his present motto as a Civil Engineer is to “never stop rendering until each client is satisfied.”

It’s admirable that Quintin has found success as an engineer yet refuses to give up his practice as a barber. Talk about humility and a sticker for not burning bridges! He is quite proud of where he has come from and where he’s going. Quintin refused to let his past define or limit his future and now paves a positive way for others to follow. God spare life, the world at large may soon be quite familiar with the phrase, “Quintin the Engineer”.
