It’s interesting that even today some people can’t tell the stark difference between using a TV and a computer. A TV gives you information and entertainment in exchange for your time and money; a Computer can give you both for the same or less money PLUS almost anything else you can think of. Hence there is often a great debate on the advantages and disadvantages of a TV versus a computer.

Some may believe the above definitions on TVs and Computers to be obvious; but it’s also obvious how many people prefer to invest more in a TV than a computer. They already have a 40 inch TV, they want a 50 inch; they obtain the 50 inch and suddenly they desire to have 83 inches. It’s almost as though they constantly crave more inches because the size seems to be lacking in other departments. Ahem!

TV versus a Computer

Apart from obtaining an increase in screen size and possibly more “smart features”, a TV offers nothing else as it pertains to practical rewards. A computer, on the other hand, can literally transform your life when used properly. And the best part is you can still receive your vital information and entertainment while undergoing a more progressive transformation.

It’s easy to come home from work and just turn on the TV and become absorbed with whatever is showing. I would know because at one point I had a daily schedule that had been neatly penned on paper; this schedule outlined every TV show I felt I needed to watch from 8:00 am till 10:00pm Sunday to Sunday.

Needless to say I was not working then and I used the schedule as a way to help past the time. Within a year of obtaining a new job, I purchased a new computer and it literally turned out to be the best decision of my life.

How a Computer changed my life

Very few people believed in me at the time when they felt I’d been wasting time “playing on my computer”. They felt I would have been better off outdoors, living life the way everyone else appeared to be.

As time passed and they began seeing income coming in from my computer and creative pursuits, immediately their viewpoints changed. Suddenly they were saying, “Great job!”, “I knew you could do it!” and “OMG. You’re soooooo talented!” I just smiled to myself then, but not out of arrogance; it was because I realized somehow they stopped doubting what I had been trying to show them all along.

A TV is a tool; a Computer is an investment

A TV is a tool that you should be using; it should not be using you. Someone with greater ambition would easily grasp why owning a computer (especially when paired with the Internet) is just a much better investment. You can use it to forge a new career (e.g. as a Writer, Designer or Marketer as I did); you can also use it to start your own business or increase your brand awareness (also like I did).

Yet, these do not scratch the number of possibilities owning a computer can bring. Anything can happen once you sit down, THINK long and hard, then decide that you wish to consistently put in the hard work to make your dreams comes through.

Choose the one that leads to a more active life

Yes, using a computer generally requires a little more thought and effort at times. It’s easy to just press a button on the TV and then passively let it live your life for you. But if this is how you spend the majority of your free time then you are essentially wasting your life.

Always remember that bigger does not necessarily make you happier; this rule not only applies to TVs but goes for houses, cars, jobs, bank accounts and of course penises. If you want to change your life and have to choose between investing more in a TV or a Computer, forget size and features. Use the right head and you’ll always make the choice that in the long run will make you more successful and satisfied with life.
