I am not one to live in the past or to hold grudges based on ancestry. But I remember many years ago a friend recommended that I read the Willie Lynch letter.

I was informed that I would gain a deeper understanding of slavery and the atrocities blacks had to undergo back in the day. Skeptical, I took a chance and read the letter. I remember reading it and simultaneously feeling sick to my stomach.

So why would someone even want to read this? Maybe just for knowledge. Maybe to become more enlightened or to increase their level of empathy. But my primary reason for reading it at the time was to determine if humanity was every truly freed. I can say with certainty that I did indeed get my answer.

Warning: what you about to read is very detailed and graphic; it contains words, descriptions and language that may offend. Do read at your own risk.
